Is Vega helpful for weight loss?
Absolutely! With just 240 calories and 7g of net carbs per serving (Natural flavour), Vega is an excellent choice for those on a calorie-reduced diet. High in fiber, protein and essential fats, Vega is naturally filling and satisfying, helping to suppress appetite and cravings. Plus being 100% plant-based, Vega is easy to digest, alkaline forming and full of beneficial phytonutrients that can facilitate your weight loss efforts.
How does Vega taste?
We think it tastes great! We use only the finest natural flavourings and highest quality stevia for minimal aftertaste and a nice round sweetness. The insoluble fibre might take a bit of getting used to but it provides additional texture and mouthfeel. With Vega, you may not get as much flavour as other meal replacements may offer but you also won’t get any artificial
colours, flavours or sweeteners either. Even our Natural flavour tastes good on its own as it has a bit of vanilla flavour and stevia also.
Who should take Vega?
Everyone can benefit from taking Vega; from children to seniors, basically anyone looking to add more plant-based whole foods to their diet. Vega is totally safe with no negative side effects or contraindications with any other food, supplement or drug. Vega is an ideal supplement for convenience-seeking omnivores wanting to consume more vegetarian meals.
What results can I expect after taking Vega?
Regular use of Vega can lower nutritional stress and improve health and vitality. More specific benefits include reduced biological age, more energy, strength and endurance, improved productivity and mental clarity, higher quality, deeper sleep, improved resistance to illness, quicker recovery from exercise, fewer cravings and less hunger and elevated mood.
Why is Vega so expensive?
Like the saying goes, “you get what you pay for.” We consider Vega “valuable” rather than expensive. Vega was made without compromises using the finest, freshest and most wholesome ingredients. At about $5 at retail per serving, Vega is the most expensive meal replacement on the market but it is still cheaper than a fast food meal. Even a designer coffee and muffin costs more than a serving of Vega. Plus, remember, you get a full dose of ChlorEssence and MacaSure in every serving of Vega – that’s worth about an extra $25 a bottle.
Do I have to take the full recommended serving size of Vega each time?
Vega was formulated so that each serving meets all Canadian meal replacement guidelines. However, if you are not requiring a full meal or wish to take Vega as a snack, you can definitely take a half or even quarter serving at a time. Even a half serving of Vega is more nutritionally complete than many other meal replacements on the market.
How do you keep the flax seed in Vega from going bad?
Our whole flax seed goes through a proprietary flash pasteurization process that preserves quality, consistency and shelf stability at room temperature (for up to 18 months) with
minimal effect on nutritional value. In fact, chemical analysis of our flax seed vs. the standard published by the Federation of Oils, Seeds and Fats Associations (FOSFA) shows virtually identical results in the key marker components of fat, dietary fibre, protein, moisture and ash. Our flax is milled so finely that 100% will pass through a #30 US sieve. This makes it the smoothest, creamiest and most soluble flax around.
Why are there 17 servings in the Natural flavour and only 15 servings in the chocolate and berry flavours?
There are more servings in the Natural flavour because its serving size is smaller than the other flavours. You get the same nutritional value as the other flavours but pay for less flavouring. The Natural flavour is the best value as it is the same price as the other flavours but gives you 2 extra servings per bottle!
Do I need to take any other supplements while taking Vega?
Vega is both a food and a supplement. It is nutritionally complete plus it also contains extra health promoting supplements not found in other meal replacements including ChlorEssence, MacaSure, probiotics and antioxidants. If you eat reasonably well and enjoy good general health, you may not need any supplements other than Vega.
Can I add Vega to my blended shake/smoothie?
Yes, Vega tastes great on its own just mixed with water or in a blended fruit smoothie. Use the Natural flavour if you are blending it with fruit as it is milder and goes well with just about any other flavours. That being said, the chocolate flavour mixed with banana and peanut butter is pretty tough to beat! For additional information on Vega and its history, go to http://www.myvega.com.
MacaSure
FAQ Answered by Dr. Beth Ley, PhD and Carmen Mattes, Master Herbalist
What is Maca?
Maca is a cruciferous root vegetable indigenous to the high Andean mountain plateaus of Peru. Also called “Peruvian Ginseng” Maca is an exceptionally hardy plant growing where no other crops can survive. At altitudes of 14,000 ft., Maca must endure extreme conditions ranging from freezing cold, fierce winds, to intense sunlight, often all within a period of 24 hours. Herbalists believe that resilient plants are especially valuable from a medicinal perspective and in this category, Maca knows no equal.
Who benefits from Maca?
Everyone! The most exciting news about Maca is that it strengthens and balances the endocrine system of both sexes in the appropriate gender-specific manner. Its action focuses on the hypothalamus/pituitary axis, which governs the intricate and delicate hormonal system of our body. Maca is an ideal addition to the daily diets of both men and women to promote greater energy and stamina improve ability to handle stress and enhance sexual and reproductive health and wellness.
Can Maca help with my menopause symptoms?
Currently, Maca is gaining worldwide attention as a safe, natural, and highly effective alternative to HRT. Many health professionals are integrating Maca into their practices and promoting it as an excellent treatment for menopause since Maca offers an entirely different and completely safe approach to hormones. Maca is a tonic (strengthener) and rejuvenator for the entire endocrine system, thereby encouraging the body to manufacture it's own natural hormones - and in the correct proportion to each other. The results speak for themselves as thousands of women report relief from symptoms such as hot flashes, mood swings, fatigue, vaginal dryness, and loss of libido.
How is Maca different from menopausal herbs like black cohosh?
Even herbs containing phyto-hormones have a suppressive effect on the glands, which would naturally otherwise produce that hormone. Unlike soy products, black cohosh, licorice root, wild yam, and others containing hormone-like substances, Maca contains no plant hormones. By regulating the hypothalamus/pituitary axis to help insure balanced and healthy hormone levels in the body, Maca works on the root of the problem rather than just the symptoms of the problem.
Will Maca interfere or disrupt my natural hormonal rhythms?
Maca feeds and nourishes the glandular system. It in no way imposes or acts as an aggressor in the body. Rather, it works with the vital life force by giving it the proper tools to ensure optimum health and balance. Maca is a superfood that revitalizes the entire endocrine system, thus allowing the innate wisdom of the body to control the hormonal system from within.
How does Maca benefit andropause?
Andropause, also referred to as male menopause is a decline in, or an inability to utilize testosterone. When levels of this hormone become depleted in a man’s body, the results can be devastating--both physically and emotionally. Thankfully Maca can restore the aging hormonal system back to that of its younger years by strengthening and toning the entire endocrine system. Benefits can include an increase in libido, sexual potency, fertility, energy and stamina.
How much Maca should I take?
A common misconception about herbs is that there is a standard dosage. In actuality, the proper measure is in relation to size, sensitivity, age, and gender. In general though, a typical daily-suggested intake could be anywhere from 1,500-10,000mg daily, split into two or three doses. Remember that Maca is a food; less than 1500mg will likely not deliver desired results. We recommend starting at 1,500mg per day and regulating your own dosage to achieve your personal goals.
Can I take Maca with other supplements/medications?
To date there are no known toxic side effects to Maca. It is a very safe food and just as a common potato or turnip would not interfere with medications or supplements, neither will Maca. In fact, Maca will assist the body in utilizing supplements to their optimum capacity as it helps to further digest and assimilate the nutrients.
Can I give Maca to my children?
Maca has been consumed as a staple food in the diets of Native Peruvians for thousands of years. It has proven to be very safe and it is most definitely beneficial for children. In today’s world of devitalized and highly processed foods, high sugared snacks and drinks, and demineralized soils, it’s nice for parents to know they have a highly nutritious alternative. Maca has no known side effects and is non-toxic. Maca powder can be added to beverages or food, including yogurt, porridge, applesauce, or pudding.
Can I give Maca to my pets?
The Native Peruvians fed Maca to their livestock to promote endurance, strength, and fertility. It is recorded that the use of Maca in their domesticated animals greatly enhanced their health. It may be of particular interest to breeders to know that Maca absolutely increases fertility, and to further its appeal, Maca also builds strong and vital offspring.
What is the best form of Maca to take?
Look for brands that use pure, certified organic Maca that is grown traditionally in the Peruvian highlands. Make sure that only the root of the Maca plant is used, as this is where the medicinal value resides. For best results, choose gelatinized Maca for greater potency and optimal absorption. Gelatinization is an extrusion process that removes the starch from the root leaving a more concentrated powder that is easier to digest. Maca is available in powder, tablets, and capsules. Powder is the most economical form and tablets and capsules are the most convenient. For additional information on MacaSure, go to http://www.macasure.com/index.htm.
ChlorEssence
Chlorella is a complete food providing nourishment directly at the cellular level. Chlorella is a very well balanced package of essential nutrients. Along with its rich stores of complete protein, Chlorella also provides carbohydrates, essential fatty acids, minerals, vitamins, chlorophyll, fiber, antioxidants, RNA and DNA, its own unique Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF) and a wide variety of phytochemicals. Chlorella works to directly nourish and stimulate each of the 60 trillion cells we have in our body. Chlorella can help provide critical nutritional support that may be lacking in the diets of many people. It is an ideal supplement for the entire family, from infant to child to adult and seniors. It is also excellent for pets of all kinds. Chlorella strengthens the immune system.
If we want to help ourselves heal or even prevent disease, the key is to build up our immune system. Most viral infections and pathogenic intrusions can be successfully fought off if our cells are healthy and the metabolic pathways are clear. Chlorella is a supreme booster of the immune system, keeping pathogens in check and fending off illness. Studies have confirmed that Chlorella can provide critical benefits for the health of individuals with suppressed immune systems, especially when under stress.
Chlorella detoxifies and purifies the body. Detoxification refers to the removal of toxic substances from the body. This is a natural process the body is continually undergoing as we are exposed to these substances that may have entered from the outside - such as pesticide residues, use of pharmaceuticals or cigarettes, or are produced in the body such as in the colon due to inefficient metabolism in the body. Chlorella works to clear the body of toxins, heavy metals and poisons. It can help our bodies to eliminate dioxins and other hormone disrupters. Chlorella is our richest natural source of chlorophyll, which is a powerful cleanser and detoxifier, plus its tough cell walls contain special fibers that bond to and remove numerous undesirables from our bodies. This helps relieve the burden of the liver and helps it to work more effectively.
Chlorella promotes healthy cellular growth and repair to slow down aging. All of the above aspects work together towards promoting longevity. These are what make Chlorella effective against the many problems resulting from debilitating modern lifestyles. All of these activities help us avoid illness and disease. Chlorella also contains high levels of healing and anti-aging factors. Especially valuable are nucleic acids, RNA and DNA, and a specific compound unique to Chlorella, called Chlorella Growth Factor or CGF. This is what is responsible for Chlorella's high reproduction rate. In our bodies, this compound works to promote healthy cellular growth and repair. Our cells are continually renewing themselves. Given the proper nutritional support, with the encouragement of CGF and RNA and DNA, Chlorella not surprisingly has this important effect on us.
CGF - The Chlorella Powerhouse
A unique chemical complex to Chlorella protein called CGF(Chlorella Growth Factor) is believed to be the core of it's healing properties. All elements within Chlorella's nucleus (peptides, proteins, the nucleic acids (RNA and DNA), polysaccharides, beta glucans, sulfur and manganese combine to form CGF. It is found only in the nucleus of the cell. Researchers have discovered that CGF is produced by Chlorella during the intense photosynthesis that enables Chlorella to grow so fast. Each cell multiplies into four new cells every 20-24 hours, and CGF promotes this rapid rate of reproduction. This growth factor helps the growth of animals, microorganisms and renews our cells. Experiments with microorganisms, animals and children have shown that CGF promotes faster than normal growth without adverse side effects, and in adults, it appears to enhance RNA/DNA functions responsible for production of proteins, enzymes and energy at the cellular level, stimulating tissue repair and protecting cells against some toxic substances. In children and adults CGF repairs damaged tissue and protects cells from toxins.
CGF also helps promote the growth of beneficial bacteria in the colon. CGF does not stimulate growth or weight gain in adults, nor is it known to stimulate the growth rate of any disease. It only stimulates growth in children and animals who have not yet reached their full, adult size. These results (increased selective growth and healing) cannot be explained by any other component in Chlorella other than its unique CGF.
Perhaps among the most interesting CGF research was done at a hospital where patients with long-standing wounds (gastric and peptic ulcers, and chronic gastritis) that refused to heal after treatment with standard medications. In these patients given liquid CGF in a matter of days, new tissue began to appear and all were soon healed completely. This clearly showed that CGF was capable of stimulating tissue repair when the body's healing sources were exhausted.
Dr. Bernard Jenson wrote in his book, Chlorella: Gem of the Orient, that CGF and the nucleic acids are the most valuable features of Chlorella because "they lift the energy level of the body as a whole and because they repair and renew all organs, glands, and tissues of the body." 1. CGF helps maintain and repair cells 2. CGF increases energy levels 3. CGF stimulates growth of new cells 4. CGF supports immune function The level of CGF in Chlorella supplements varies. While whole Chlorella typically contains about 5% CGF, liquid concentrates and powdered CGF extracts may contain 10-15 times this amount. Some special strains of Chlorella can exceed 20% CGF. The higher the level of CGF, the greater the benefits.
What is Chlorella used for?
It can be used as a nutrient-dense whole food or a food supplement taken to ensure you are obtaining all of your dietary needs. Fatigue and mental depression, which are so common today, are signals from the body that something is wrong. Chlorella serves as an overall health and immune booster to encourage and maintain good health.
How long does one need to take it to see results?
Keep in mind that Chlorella is a food and not a drug. While some people see effects in just a few days, 2-3 months may be needed to realize the full effect of its many benefits. Once the body has less toxic load the organs and glands can begin restoration towards optimal functioning. Thus, it can take even longer to realize all the benefits of taking Chlorella.
What is the difference between Chlorella and Spirulina or blue-green algae?
Spirulina and blue-green algae are actually not algae but cyanobacteria. Both are high in protein and vitamins but they lack the cell nucleus that characterizes Chlorella as a complete unicellular organism. Spirulina is cultivated like Chlorella but blue green algae grows wild in lakes and waterways, consuming whatever nutrients are in the water. Some species of cyanobacteria are toxic just like mushrooms and some land plants. Companies that harvest wild species of blue-green algae from natural lakes cannot have the same degree of control as growing chlorella and harvesting wild algae presents a far greater risk of contamination by cyanobacterial toxins. Chlorella contains up to 10 times more chlorophyll than spirulina and up to 20 times more than blue green algae, making it a much superior detoxifier. Chlorella is also a more complete and higher quality source of protein and of course Chlorella is the only source of CGF which is responsible for many of its healing and anti-aging properties.
Is Chlorella good for vegetarians?
It is excellent for vegetarians due to its B-12 content and wide range of amino acids, including all 8 essentials. These nutrients can sometimes be deficient in non-meat eaters.
Is Chlorella good for athletes and bodybuilders?
Athletes tend to push themselves physically to the limit. This creates a great stress if proper nutrition is not there to support those demands. The high level of a wide range of amino acids ensures optimal healing and recovery to muscle tissue, joints and any other area of the body. Thus, plus Chlorella's overall nutritional food value, high levels of nucleic acids and CGF makes it a fantastic food supplement for all athletes.
Are there any side effects or interactions with other supplements or drugs using Chlorella?
None have been reported. It is very safe.
Can Chlorella be used topically?
Yes. Chlorella powder can be mixed with water into a thick paste and applied over cuts, scrapes, rashes or wounds to help facilitate healing. The CGF makes it an effective healer of human tissue. After consuming Chlorella for approximately one year, you should notice significant improvement in the healing of cuts, scrapes, and wounds without the need to apply it topically.
How does Chlorella taste?
It tastes GREEN! Try adding Chlorella powder to fruit smoothies or juices such as apple, white grape, pineapple or orange. The natural sugars in these combine well with Chlorella.
What is the best way to ensure digestibility with Chlorella's tough outer wall?
Every manufacturer of Chlorella claims to have a special cell wall treatment to improve digestion. Most advanced producers today use super high pressure jet spray drying which creates deep cracks in the cell walls, making the nutrients within available to us, but keeps them contained and intact within the cell walls until they are actually consumed. Others actually mill the Chlorella which grinds and collapses the entire Chlorella cell into very small fragments, therefore exposing the nutrients contained within Chlorella, reducing shelf life and requiring significantly more extensive packaging. Both methods are effective and offer 80% or higher digestibility. Don't be mislead by special patented procedures that claim only their process increases digestibility.
Is it true that Chlorella can help with weight loss?
This has been one of the reported benefits by Chlorella users. Many people report that taking Chlorella before meals acts like an appetite suppressant. Because it contains such a wide variety of nutrients and fiber, Chlorella can easily satisfy our nutritional needs and therefore, our appetite is diminished. Also Chlorella is known to be an adaptogen or a biological response modifier (BRM) meaning it helps the body lower hormones associated with stress. These stress hormones have numerous negative effects on the body that can cause us to eat more, but our ability to digest that food slows down, leading to weight gain. If we lower those stress hormones (as with Chlorella) our food cravings diminish and our digestive system can work more effectively!
What other health benefits are associated with Chlorella?
Chlorella is mostly recognized for it's rich composition of phytochemicals that support the body's natural self-defense mechanism, detoxify and nourish the body and assist in achieving longevity and well-being. It makes sense that if your body is weary, run down, undernourished and etc. that where ever there is a weak area in the body, that area will probably suffer and with the proper nutritional support those problems can be reversed. Chlorella is not some miracle cure. The human body is the miracle as it was created to heal itself if given the proper nutritional support to do so. First Milking Colostrum
Life’s perfect first food, colostrum is the pre-milk fluid produced by all female mammals prior to giving birth. Naturally rich in immune and growth factors, colostrum helps insure the health of the newborn. We all know newborns fare better when able to obtain colostrum through breastfeeding but did you know that people of all ages can benefit from taking colostrum?
Colostrum has applications for every generation and it’s never too late to start receiving the benefits of life’s first food. Since collecting human colostrum is unrealistic, the next best source is bovine (cow) colostrum as it is nearly identical to that of human’s. In fact, research proves bovine colostrum can enhance immune system function and support growth and repair in all mammals, including humans. In addition, cows produce an abundance of colostrum, more than enough to supply human needs without depriving newborn calves.
Historically, bovine colostrum has played a significant role in natural healing. In India, Ayurvedic physicians have prescribed it for thousands of years and still do to this day. In western medicine, bovine colostrum was used extensively for immune purposes prior to the invention of antibiotics and sulfa drugs. In fact, did you know that the Polio vaccine was developed from antibodies isolated from bovine colostrum? Over the past few years, the scientific community has “rediscovered” this all natural immune and growth supporting food. Thousands of clinical and research studies have been published on the use of colostrum and its components to treat a variety of diseases and health concerns.
FAQ answered by Dr. Richard Cockrum, a leading researcher and foremost authority on colostrum.
Why bovine colostrum?
The immune and growth factors in cow’s colostrum are nearly identical to those in human colostrum. Bovine colostrum is not species specific and can benefit all mammals. Furthermore, dairy cows produce more than enough colostrum to supply human needs without depriving calves of their essential first food.
How safe is colostrum?
Colostrum is a natural food product and can be consumed with no adverse side effects or drug interactions. Thousands of years of human use and thousands of scientific studies and human clinical trials worldwide have proven bovine colostrum to be safe and effective for people of all ages.
How can I benefit from colostrum as an adult?
As we age, our bodies gradually produce less and less of the immune and growth factors that help fight disease, repair body tissue and promote energy and vitality. With the decline of these components over time, we age until we eventually die. Colostrum is the only natural source of these powerful immune-enhancing and anti-aging factors.
Why is “first milking” so critical?
The concentration of beneficial immune and growth factors is highest and in perfect balance only in first milking colostrum. Remember, only true first-milking colostrum is used in the thousands of clinical and scientific research studies. Colostrum collected from subsequent milkings may not provide the desired results.
Can I take colostrum with other supplements/medications?
Colostrum heals the digestive tract so that all substances taken internally (eg. food, herbs, supplements, medication) become more bioavailable to the body. When taking colostrum, you may find that the other supplements and medications that you are taking will have a more pronounced effect.
What if I’m lactose intolerant?
It shouldn’t be a problem for most people as genuine first milking colostrum is very low in lactose. For example, a 200mg colostrum lozenge contains less than 24mg of lactose (compared to an 8 oz glass of milk which contains 13,000mg of lactose). It usually takes about 80mg of lactose to trigger an allergic response in most lactose intolerant individuals.
What about New Zealand Colostrum?
New Zealand’s dairy industry has an excellent reputation. When it comes to colostrum, however, it depends on how you define the word “colostrum”. New Zealand colostrum is harvested from the first five milkings, up to 48 hours after birth. According to basic dairy science, this more closely resembles milk than true colostrum. New Zealand colostrum is also defatted to increase shelf life, resulting in lower growth factor levels. Sequel Naturals premium quality colostrum comes from the finest organic dairies in North America. To ensure maximum potency, Sequel only uses colostrum from the very first milking, collected within the first six hours after birth. Furthermore, their proprietary manufacturing process allows them to keep the colostrum’s naturally occurring fats fully intact to ensure the highest possible levels of age-defying growth factors. For your safety and peace of mind, Sequel's products are made in GMP certified and FDA licensed facilities under the strictest of quality standards. Every batch of product is tested and certified to be free of any harmful pathogens by independent laboratories.
